Okonomiyaki Recipe

Okonomiyaki

Okonomiyaki is also often called as Japanese Pizza. But for me it is a bit more like martabak in Indonesia. Found this snack for the first time in takoyaki stall, had a look the seller processing it, and here I go making okonomiyaki by myself. The ingredients and cooking process are very simple. I divide the ingredients into 3 categories; batter, filling, and topping. For the batter, some of recipes I found using particular okonomiyaki flour and the rest is using all purpose flour (of course I choose the later one). For the filling, I am sure you can easily find them on your fridge. And for the topping, there are okonomiyaki sauce which I bought online and apparently its flavour was a bit like combination of oyster sauce and tomato sauce. And for katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes), its easy to find them in supermarket. I don’t use particular dose aka only approximation dose for the ingredients. Cooking time including its preparation is about 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Batter

All purpose flour, 1 egg, water, salt, paper, instant chicken flavored.

Filling

Cabbage, onion salad, sausage (can be replaced by shrimp, chicken , etc) – chop them into fine pieces.

Topping

Okonomiyaki sauce, katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes), mayonnaise

 Directions

  1. Mix all together the batter ingredients. Make sure that it is not too dilute or sticky.
  2. Put all the filling into the batter and mix them all.
  3. Heat up a bit vegetable oil on frying pan on medium heat. Pour all the batter mixture to the frying pan. Flip it over when the bottom is already browned. Cook the other side until it is browed.
  4. Okonomiyaki pizza is ready to serve after adding some toppings okonomiyaki sauce and mayonnaise in zigzag line and katsuobushi.
  5. Enjoy!!
